God, Where Are You?

God is where we are, and He is looking out for our best interests, but He sees what we don’t see and knows and understands what we do not.

The question itself implies He’s not here and He doesn’t care. That doesn’t work for me.

I have to ask another question. “Who is God?” And “What is He like?”

There are so many ways to answer the question, but the words that resound in my mind are those of Psalm 8.

O Lord, our Lord,

how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory above the heavens.

Out of the mouth of babies and infants,

you have established strength because of your foes,

to still the enemy and the avenger.

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,

the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,

what is man that you are mindful of him,

and the son of man that you care for him?

Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings.

and crowned him with glory and honor.

You have given him dominion over the works of your hands;

you have put all things under his feet,

all sheep and oxen,

and also the beasts of the field,

the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea,

whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

O Lord, our Lord,

how majestic is your name in all the earth!

God is so much bigger than we are, but He wants to live with us and in us.

Where is He? He’s right here. He’s with you. He’s with me. He sees our hurts. He knows our hurts. He knows you, and He knows me—inside and out. Yet He loves us—even when we aren’t sure He’s there.

Don’t take my word for it. Take His Word for it. Dive in. Read the Bible and pray for wisdom and understanding as you read.

Jack is a not-yet-ready-for-retirement pastor with over 50 years in ministry. That’s right. FIVE DECADES. I was starting kindergarten when he started his first ministry. I invited Jack to join me because he is a good man, a good friend, and a wealth of wisdom and experience.
